PROTOTYPE IN DEVELOPMENT

Keep pen-and-paper writing. Understand how a DSE essay came to be.

The first phase of DSE Writing Intelligence focuses only on Chinese Language Paper 2 Writing and English Language Paper 2 Writing. Without changing the pen-and-paper mock, we are exploring whether writing-process data can support a more useful diagnosis.

/ 01

From a paper script to an observable writing process

This is the workflow under prototype investigation. It does not mean the full marking and reporting system is validated or open for use.

Pen-and-paper mock

Students still use a question booklet, answer paper and pen under DSE-like time constraints.

Dot-pattern strokes

Explore recording strokes, page, position, sequence and timing on dot-coded paper.

Teacher review

Reconstruction, recognition, assessment suggestions and diagnosis must be checkable and correctable by teachers.

/ 02

Four proposed report layers to validate

The value of a dot pen is not simply another AI score. The question is whether the process beyond the final script can inform the next training session.

Result

Present reviewed performance information aligned with each subject's task and assessment requirements.

Quality

Analyse content, organisation and expression separately for Chinese and English; one rubric cannot serve both.

Process

Observe time allocation, writing order, pauses and revisions; describe behaviour before inferring causes.

Prescription

Where evidence is sufficient, turn diagnosis into concrete practice for the next mock.

PRODUCT BOUNDARIES

Stroke capture is not reliable AI marking.

Text recognition, assisted marking, agreement with teachers and longitudinal diagnosis each need separate testing. A single pause can have many causes and must not be labelled a capability deficit; estimated performance is not an official HKEAA grade. Any pilot using student scripts or handwriting must first establish notices, consent and data handling.
